District Governor Garth Toombs  was our guest speaker today.  He is a Past-President of the Downtown Club and has been involved in Community Service for many years.  It is the District Governor's annual duty to visit all the clubs and we are very honoured to have had Garth and his lovely wife Anne with us today.

Confuscius said "It is better to light a single candle than to stand and curse the darkness".  This year's them for Rotary is "Light Up Rotary".  There are 1.2 million nieghbours, friends and community leaders who come together in Rotary around the world.  This involves 200 countries, 34,282 Clubs and ten official languages.  One of Rotary's major achievements over the past decades in making a difference in the world is that we're sooo close to ending polio.  Contrary to what some people may think, Rotary is very flexible, not rigid at all and has several areas of focus:  promoting peace, flighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies - and all of these by means of sustainable projects.  DG Toombs encouraged as many people as possible to attend the District Conference which will be held in Medicine Hat from May 8th to 10th, 2015.
