This coming Thursday, the Rotary Club of Calgary East welcomes Ian Hartley as Guest Speaker. Ian was Keynote Speaker at the District Conference last month. This promises to be an enjoyable presentation.  Be sure not  to is this exciting speaker.
Bio for Ian Hartley
 

Dr. Ian-Grey Hopkins Hartley was born in 1941 to farming parents in South Africa not far from Nelson Mandela’s birthplace. He grew up speaking English and Xhosa. Ian’s undergraduate studies were in Mathematics, Physics and Religion. His graduate work is in Mathematics, Religion and Education. He spent the first half of his professional life teaching in Central and Southern Africa and the second half of his professional career as a clergyman with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Southern Africa and Alberta. He is married for 54 years to Irma who was also born in South Africa. They have two married daughters who both have Ph.D.’s and one grandson who is a software engineer.

Ian has been a Rotarian for over 30 years and has led Rotary initiatives in foreign countries from South Africa and from Alberta. Ian and Irma moved to Alberta from South Africa 20 years ago. His hobbies include fixing anything mechanical, cabinet making, motor cycling, writing, public speaking and driving fine cars.  He retired four years ago and thinks he should have done so 40 years ago! Currently he does part time chaplaincy work and is a board member of the Pregnancy Care Centre. He is a great believer in the value of Rotary International as a remarkable force for good and for building community in this world. Ian is an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Red Deer East
